The Southern Section Executive Committee showed support Wednesday for an appeal by Calabasas that would leave the Coyotes in the Marmonte League for all sports but football, with Westlake Village Oaks Christian going into the Marmonte League for football only.

The vote was 13-3 in favor of that proposal. It will be forwarded to the Southern Section Council meeting on Oct. 22, when league representatives must approve the formation of new leagues for the 2010-2014 cycle.

The Marmonte League wants to have Oaks Christian in all sports and remove Calabasas, which would go to the Tri-Counties Athletic Assn. The Executive Committee endorsed that proposal by an 11-5 vote.

Calabasas, Oaks Christian and the other Marmonte League schools now get to spend five months of lobbying other leagues until the final vote is made at the Southern Section Council meeting.
