Sherman Oaks Notre Dame has been on a roll in sending players to the professional ranks, so the Philadelphia Phillies selected Notre Dame outfielder Kelly Dugan in the second round Tuesday.

Dugan apparently had a supporter in an ex-Notre Dame student, Pat Gillick, the former general manager of the Phillies who is serving as an advisor to the team. Gillick was at a workout Dugan had with the Phillies.

‘We’re ecstatic,’ Dugan said. ‘I felt from the get-go they were the best fit for me.’

Dugan signed with Pepperdine but he appears ready to start a professional career, joining ex-Notre Dame standout Mike Stanton and several others who have either reached the major leagues or are trying to get there.
