Boys’ basketball: Fairfax tournament starts Tuesday

One of the best boys’ basketball tournaments of the summer begins Tuesday at Los Angeles Fairfax, with many Southern California basketball powers in the 16-team tournament. Admission is $6 daily, with a six-day pass available for $20.

The opening-night schedule has Leuzinger taking on Los Angeles Loyola at 4 p.m., Westchester facing Campbell Hall at 5:30 p.m., Woodland Hills Taft meeting Orange Lutheraln at 7 p.m. and North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake playing Gardena Serra at 8:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, it’s Long Beach Poly vs. St. Francis at 4 p.m., Santa Monica vs. Dorsey at 5:30 p.m., Fairfax vs. Crespi at 7 p.m. and Santa Ana Mater Dei vs. La Canada at 8:30 p.m. The semifinals will be Saturday at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., with the championship game Sunday at 6 p.m.

UCLA-bound Tyler Lamb from Mater Dei is scheduled to play in Wednesday’s game, according to Monarchs Coach Gary McKnight. Uncommitted guard Gary Franklin Jr. will not appear in the tournament.
