Marmonte League players have the right to stick out their chests and walk around with a little bit of cockiness after Agoura upset No. 3-seeded Chatsworth in the quarterfinals of the Valley Invitational Baseball League playoffs Monday night.

It means there will be a Marmonte League school in Friday’s final at Birmingham because Newbury Park knocked off Westlake, 6-3, and will play at Agoura in Wednesday’s semifinals. Agoura has been a summer surprise, finally showing improvement after several down seasons.

The other semifinal will match top-seeded Valencia West Ranch hosting Encino Crespi. West Ranch defeated Woodland Hills El Camino Real, 7-1, with Allen Sarkissian striking out seven in 6 1/3 innings and JC Cloney and Jared Ortiz contributing two hits apiece.

Crespi defeated Valencia in the other quarterfinal, 4-2. The Celts scored all their runs in the first inning and relied on the pitching of Ryan Brockett and Ryon Healy.
