The first day of school is approaching, which means we will finally find out where all the top basketball players have landed.

The latest news is that 6-foot-10 junior Kevin Johnson is leaving Gardena Serra. Coach Dwain Hurt confirmed Tuesday that Johnson has told the school he won’t be back.

Los Angeles Price and Westchester are the leading candidates for Johnson. If he goes to Price, a state title will be inevitable. If he goes to Westchester, good luck to those who must try to figure out how to beat an already strong team.

Of course, Taft Coach Derrick Taylor has heard the rumors about Johnson and isn’t concerned. After all, his team beat Fairfax twice with 6-11 Renardo Sidney.

So, all you fans and coaches, cross your fingers and wait until the first school bell rings. That’s when everyone will find out who’s staying and who’s coming.

It should be an interesting couple of weeks.
