Football: Summer passing tourneys mean plenty

For all those who think summer passing tournaments are silly and don’t tell anything, please pay attention to this week’s scores.

Back in June, when I went to the Dana Hills tournament, the best teams were clearly Huntington Beach Edison, Oaks Christian and Anaheim Servite. All came through with season-opening victories.

I saw Crenshaw and Loyola perform well in passing competitions. Each won Friday against tough opponents. Carson was one of the summer’s big surprises and showed it was no fluke with a victory over Santa Ana Mater Dei.

So summer matters.
