Call it an upset, but Moorpark clearly outplayed Sherman Oaks Notre Dame from start to finish Saturday night to come away with a 27-14 victory.

It’s a huge win for Moorpark (2-0), ranked No. 20 by The Times and the Marmonte League title favorite. Notre Dame (1-1), ranked No. 6, went 10-0 last season during the regular season.

The passing of Brody Rohach and the running of Austin Edmonson sparked Moorpark on offense. But it was the ability to deny the big play to Notre Dame that proved decisive. Joey Eckert’s interception in the end zone with 1:23 left locked up the win for Moorpark.

Rohach passed for 143 yards, including lots of clutch completions on third down. Edmonson rushed for 128 yards in 25 carries. Notre Dame quarterback Ryan Kasdorf passed for 230 yards with two interceptions. Tyler Thomas caught 12 passes for 120 yards.
