Adam Guerra is only 24 years old, but he said Saturday he’s ready to take on the assignment of becoming head coach at Los Angeles Loyola following the resignation of Jeff Kearin.

Guerra, a former Loyola player, has been the team’s defensive coordinator and offensive line coach. He will take over the offense, with assistant Mark Hearn handling the defense. Also, former Coach Steve Grady will join the program in a limited advisory role supporting the coaching staff.

‘He’s an incredible resource for me,’ Guerra said of Grady. ‘I’ve played for him and coached for him.’

Guerra has been coaching at Loyola since he was 18. He will be the interim coach. He said he was surprised with Kearin’s decision.

‘Losing the players we have and losing Coach Kearin, it’s been an interesting year, but there’s a lot of football left to be played,’ he said.
