Basketball coaches in the City Section will be voting on revising the playoff format to help send more teams to the state playoffs.

One proposal includes picking the top 25 teams for Division I, followed by the next group of teams for Division II and the next for Division III out of 61 teams.

Another has the coaches’ association using past performance to take the top 12 teams and put them in Division I. The next 12 teams would go in Division II and the next 12 in Division III. Leagues would then be ranked, and the last three teams in each league would be placed in divisions.

Either way, the City Section is going to be sending more teams to the state playoffs. Under new regulations, the City will receive four entries for Division I, two for Division II, two for Division III, two for Division IV and two for Division V.

The Interscholastic Athletic Committee must approve any changes.
