Lost in the aftermath of La Canada St. Francis losing to Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, 28-24, on a fumble inside the 10-yard line with under two minutes left was the performance of St. Francis’ senior quarterback Justin Posthuma.

Yes, it was Posthuma’s fumble that cost the Golden Knights. But he also passed for 218 yards and ran for 102 yards, outshining Notre Dame’s Ryan Kasdorf, the reigning Gatorade state player of the year.

And if a loss is ever better than a victory, this was the game for St. Francis. Few knew how good St. Francis (5-1) was because the Golden Knights had played five unimpressive nonleague opponents.
