The tailgate party is on, the extra bleachers are in place and the lighting has never been better at La Puente Bishop Amat, where the Lancers will take on Santa Ana Mater Dei in the best opening matchup of the Pac-5 Division playoffs. Prime Ticket is televising the game tape delay at 10:30 p.m. and helped boost the lighting.

But the tailgate party by Bishop Amat supporters is what I want to talk about. There was food everywhere, along with a car that had its hood open and uniform No. 69 sticking out from above with loud speakers blaring music. They sure know how to get ready for a playoff game.

I’m expecting a USC-UCLA scene, with Mater Dei supporters in red and Bishop Amat supporters in blue. Supposedly, more than 6,000 can fit in here, and I doubt there will be very many open seats in the bleachers.
