The high school football season still has several weeks left, but schools have already started the scramble to come up with nonleague games in 2010, and it could be interesting with the formation of new leagues.

In particular, members of the new 10-team Marmonte League will have only one nonleague game. That means lots of schools that used to play Marmonte teams in nonleague games will have to get a new opponent. And ambitious Marmonte schools that want to be considered for a bowl game will need to make sure they play a quality nonleague opponent.

Ventura St. Bonaventure is hoping to play La Puente Bishop Amat in its lone nonleague game. Westlake Village Oaks Christian is expected to keep Mission Hills Alemany as its opening game. Westlake, expected to have one of the top teams in the Southland, is looking for an opening game and the Warriors would be smart to schedule a top opponent and use that game as a springboard to a high state ranking.
