Bishop Montgomery defeated the defending CIF Division V state champions Bellarmine-Jefferson, 66-59, in a quarterfinal last night at the Inglewood tournament.

‘We have a team that’s establishing their own identity,’ said Bishop Montgomery coach Alexa Johnson. ‘They feel they can compete with anyone -- and they did.’

Sophomore Devon Brookshire scored 16 points for the Knights, and juniors Kristen Ale and Chelsey Aaron each contributed 15.

The Knights will face Inglewood in a semifinal on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Inglewood High.

‘It’s going to be a big battle,’ Johnson said.

Another Friday semifinal features Long Beach Poly-Beverly Hills at 6 p.m. at Inglewood. The complete schedule can be found at www.ihsgb.camp8.org.
