A tarp on the Gardena Serra football field was removed at 3:30 p.m., and the field looks in good shape for tonight’s 7:30 p.m. Northwest Division championship game between the Cavaliers and Westlake Village Oaks Christian.

How long it will stay in good shape remains to be seen. It’s overcast, and rain is expected. Whether wet weather and a wet field favors one team or the other remains to be seen.

Serra (13-0) has the better overall team speed, but Oaks Christian (13-0) certainly isn’t slow. Of more concern is which of the injured players for both teams are going to play.

Defensive tackle-tight end Alani Fua of Oaks Christian isn’t expected to play. Serra was without injured receivers George Farmer and Paul Richardson Jr. last week.

Oaks Christian had its pre-game meal at Jerry’s Famous Deli in Torrance.
