Following a scoreless first quarter, Upland (11-2) compiled an eight-play, 76-yard drive that ended with running back Corey Sims’ 7-yard scoring run with 7:03 left in the half.

Upland quarterback Justin Nunes connected with receiver Kenneth Lawler on a 23-yard pass on the drive and running back Walkeem McDonald scampered to the 7 to set up the touchdown run.

Los Osos (9-4), elimininated by Baseline League rival Upland in last season’s semifinals, answered when defensive end Tony Washington grabbed a line-of-scrimmage fumble that popped into his hands, racing 40 yards for a tying touchdown with 5:08 left in the half.

Grizzlies running back Cody Rogina rushed for 40 yards in the first half.

Los Osos kicker Andres Magallon had a 37-yard field goal attempt blocked by Upland’s Shane Pincin and the Central Division championship game is scoreless after the first quarter.

Los Osos misfired on a pass into the end zone seconds before the missed kick.

Upland was hamstrung by five penalties in the first, and the Highlanders also lost a fumble on a completion to the Grizzlies’ 40-yard-line early in the quarter.
