Football: Harry Welch rumors should be heating up

If Harry Welch is still the football coach at San Juan Capistrano St. Margaret’s this coming season, it will mean he has turned down lots of opportunities.

The latest coaching opening at Santa Margarita is right down the street from where he lives, so I would not be surprised if he becomes a candidate for that position.

He also could be in the running for Los Angeles Loyola or Encino Crespi depending on whether he wants to move back to the area where he used to live.

Or he could stay put and keep winning Southern Section championships (he has eight and counting). It’s all about whether the schools want to welcome Welch and whether he wants to take on the busy schedule at a big-time campus.

Santa Margarita would be the toughest challenge being in the Trinity League, but Welch might enjoy that, so let’s see what happens.
