Harry Welch, the much-sought-after football coach at San Juan Capistrano St. Margaret’s, said Monday by phone, while vacationing in Colorado, that he intends to make a decision about his coaching future in the next two weeks.

Welch has been linked to coaching openings at Santa Margarita, Los Angeles Loyola and Encino Crespi. He said he and his wife, Cindee, need to decide what’s best for their future.

‘I’m thinking I must make a decision in the next two weeks, and it might be my last career decision,’ he said.

Welch has been at St. Margaret’s for three years, winning a Southern Section title each season. Before that, he won five titles at Canyon Country Canyon. He has to decide whether he wants to return to Los Angeles County or stay in Orange County, where the Santa Margarita job is a short walk from where he lives.

‘I want a challenge, and I want to be happy,’ he said. ‘I don’t mind hard work. I relish it. I don’t mind a challenge. I relish that. This has to be acted on very soon.’
