Two of the top girls’ basketball teams in the nation, Mater Dei and Brea Olinda, will face off on Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Mater Dei to raise money for the family of former Orange Lutheran Coach Tony Matson, who died in April of last year at age 44.

Mater Dei (16-0) is the top-ranked team in the nation, according to MaxPreps, and Brea Olinda (12-2) is No. 3.

The teams will meet on Monday for the first time since Brea Olinda upset Mater Dei, 44-38, in the CIF Southern California Division II Regional championship last year.

Mater Dei Coach Kevin Kiernan and Brea Olinda Coach Jeff Sink organized the event to help Matson’s wife, Heidi, and their three daughters, Rachael, Brittany and Jessica. Matson collapsed suddenly while working at his construction job in Corona on April 24, 2009, and died after being transported to a hospital.

Admission to the Tony Matson Memorial Games costs $15 and the coaches are hoping to raise more than $25,000.

The showcase also features the following match-ups:

Mater Dei vs. Brea Olinda (fresh-soph) at 1 p.m.

Mater Dei vs. Brea Olinda (junior varsity) at 2:30 p.m.

Foothill vs. Rosary at 4:30 p.m.

Villa Park vs. Orange Lutheran at 6 p.m.
