There could be some big news made this weekend in recruiting. It’s the weekend after a dead period, and lots of players are headed for recruiting visits, with UCLA scheduled to bring in more than a dozen prospects.

Two big names the Bruins are hoping to land are Los Angeles Loyola’s Anthony Barr, expected to play defense, and defensive tackle Ricky Heimuli from Salt Lake City (Utah) Brighton.

Los Angles Cathedral defensive back Anthony Jefferson is also expected to make a visit to Westwood.

USC is also holding its first big weekend of recruiting with its new coaching staff. Recruiting coordinator Ed Orgeron has wasted little time in re-connecting with his former Southern California connections. Oaks Christian Coach Bill Redell said he received a call from Orgeron on Thursday.

One of Orange County’s best players, running back Kyle Middlebrooks from Fountain Valley, is down to Arizona and Arizona State, according to the Orange County Register.
