Encino Crespi could name its new football coach as early as Friday, according to school officials who declined to name the finalists.

One confirmed candidate who has interviewed for the position is Dean Herrington of Mission Hills Alemany. He was plucked from the junior college ranks and rebuilt the Warriors’ program so well that they are set to move to the Serra League this fall.

UPDATE: Former Ventura St. Bonaventure Coach Jon Mack is negotiating today to become the next Celts’ coach, according to the Daily News.

Mack has been the head coach at Ventura College. He’s a graduate of Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, Crespi’s rival school, so that would be quite interesting if he took the job. His wife still teaches at St. Bonaventure.

Herrington said Wednesday afternoon he has removed himself from consideration for the position and expects Mack to be offered the job.
