For three quarters, host Palisades gave Westchester all it could handle, but the Comets pulled away in the final eight minutes to win 73-54 on Thursday night and remain alone in first place in the Western League.

Dwayne Polee led the way for the Comets (18-2 overall, 6-0 in league) with 18 points, including two slam dunks. Kareem Jamar added 15 points and Robert Gsellman had 13 for Westchester, ranked No. 1 in the Southland by The Times.

Westchester has won 11 in a row since a 57-54 defeat to Milton of Alpharetta, Georgia, at the City of Palms Classic in Ft. Myers, Florida, on December 23.
