This Mission League game is turning out to be as good as advertised. Loyola, once down by 18 points, has closed to within 49-46 of Harvard-Westlake after three quarters.

Loyola went to a zone defense, which enabled the Cubs to deny the ball to Harvard-Westlake’s 6-5 Erik Swoope. But Swoope came back to get an offensive rebound basket and a dunk after the Cubs had closed to within 45-44. He has 23 points and five dunks. He had 33 points in the earlier meeting against Loyola.

The zone forced Harvard-Westlake to settle for jump shots, and as long as Loyola was doing a good job boxing out, the missed shot usually went into the hands of Loyola players.
