Los Angeles Fairfax Coach Harvey Kitani can’t remember the last time his team wasn’t seeded among the top four teams in the City Section basketball playoffs, saying it has to be at least 10 years or longer, but he has no trouble embracing the underdog role as a No. 5 seed for his 16-10 team.

‘We’ve got to take care of business on Friday and go from there,’ he said.

Fairfax plays host to Carson on Friday, and a win would send the Lions into a Wednesday quarterfinal game likely against No. 4 Washington.

‘We win two and we’re right where we want to be,’ Kitani said.

Fairfax is hoping its tough nonleague schedule will come into play when the pressure rises in the playoffs. Westchester is seeded No. 1, followed by Woodland Hills Taft and Crenshaw for the Division I playoffs.
