Fans attending Tuesday night’s Southern Section Division 2A quarterfinal playoff game between host Canyon Country Canyon and Burbank will at least know the players on the court are neighborhood kids who actually grew up in the area.

Canyon (20-8) has 10 seniors on its team, plus a talented sophomore point guard in Coley Apsay, helping the Cowboys overcome the loss of two transfer students, Brandon Perry, who went to Woodland Hills Taft, and two-year starting point guard Eric Gould, who transferred to Golden Valley.Coach Chad Phillips has done a good job developing the Cowboys. Burbank is 22-7 and having one of its best seasons with neighborhood kids. It’s the old-school way of winning.
