Girls’ basketball: Troy advances to a semifinal

Alex Sanchez had 13 points and Ashley Johnson scored 12 to lead Troy (26-3) to a 50-41 victory over Temecula Great Oak (22-6) in a Southern Section Division 1AA quarterfinal game Wednesday night at Troy.
McDonald’s All-American Lindsay Sherbert hit a step-back three-pointer to give Great Oak a 21-19 halftime lead. Troy rallied back to claim a 27-26 advantage at the end of the third, then exploded in the fourth, outscoring Great Oak 23-15.
Troy’s Gabriella Hanson held Sherbert to a team-high 14 points, with only one field goal in the second half.
Troy will face Corona Santiago in a semifinal on Saturday.
