Girls’ basketball: Santa Margarita 26, Muir 15 at halftime

Top-seeded Santa Margarita went on a 17-0 run at the end of the first quarter and beginning of the second to take a 26-15 halftime lead over third-seeded Muir in the Southern Section Division 3A championship tonight at Santa Ana Mater Dei.

Muir opened the game with a 7-0 run and prevented Santa Margarita from getting on the scoreboard until the 3:28 mark. Santa Margarita’s defense then took control in the second quarter, and the Mustangs didn’t score until there was 3:20 left on the clock.

Melissa Zornig has 11 points, Elise Lorenz has 6 and Jessica Joseph has five for Santa Margarita. Jermani Daniels leads Muir with seven points.
