Agoura had a fairytale season, but not a storybook ending.

After claiming the Marmonte League title and making it to the Southern Section championship for the first time in the school’s history with a perfect 29-0 record, Inglewood played the role of the big, bad spoiler.

Second-seeded Inglewood (27-5) upset top-seeded Agoura (29-1), 64-49, in the Division 3AA championship on Saturday at Cal State Long Beach.

After taking a 25-22 halftime lead, Inglewood came out strong in the second half, outscoring the chargers 13-7 in the third and 26-20 in the fourth. The Chargers closed the gap to within four points early in the fourth, but Inglewood took control and held on.

It was a physical game resulting in three girls fouling out: Inglewood’s DeAjanae Scurry and Agoura’s Kylie Cunningham and Camille Mahlknecht.

And it sure wasn’t pretty. Agoura was 16 for 55 from the field and had 25 turnovers, Inglewood was 21 for 66 and racked up 18 turnovers.

Hazel Ramirez led Inglewood with 19 points, Scurry had 14 and Keyla Morgan added 12. Brittany Oster had 19 for Agoura.

This is Inglewood’s first Southern Section title and second championship appearance since losing to Foothill in last year’s Division 3A game.
