Jesus Valdez of Hueneme threw a no-hitter, striking out 10, to help the Vikings defeat Oxnard, 2-0, in a game for first place in the Pacific View League.

Hueneme (11-4, 7-0) hadn’t beaten Oxnard since the 2006 season, having lost nine consecutive games. But Valdez was in control and needed to be because sophomore left-hander Jayson Balades pitched well for Oxnard (13-4, 6-1), allowing six hits.

Valdez broke a scoreless tie with an RBI double in the fifth. Hueneme added an unearned run in the sixth. Valdez walked two and hit three batters. His fastball was clocked in the low 90s. He has signed with Arizona but is expected to be a high draft pick.

In the Olympic League, Van Nuys Montclair Prep strengthed its hold on first place with a 6-3 win over Whittier Christian. Freshman Nick Suniga had two hits and two RBIs and freshman Myles Hager added two hits for the Mounties (14-4, 4-0).
