Baseball: Another 12 strikeouts for Henry Owens

Junior left-hander Henry Owens of Huntington Beach Edison made his seventh start on the mound Wednesday, and for the seventh consecutive time, he reached double digits in strikeouts. He struck out 12 and allowed six hits in an 11-1 Sunset League victory over Los Alamitos.

Owens (7-0) helped Edison improve to 11-6 overall and 5-1 in league. Christian Lopes had three hits for the Chargers.

Another standout pitcher, Cody Buckel of Simi Valley Royal, raised his record to 7-0 after striking out 12 and allowing four hits in an 8-2 Marmonte League victory over Moorpark.Tim Wise had three hits in Westlake’s 7-5 win over Agoura. Jordan Brower threw a three-hitter in Newbury Park’s 2-0 win over Simi Valley.

In the Foothill League, Santa Clarita Golden Valley pulled off a major upset, routing Valencia West Ranch, 18-6. Golden Valley (7-9, 2-4) got 17 hits, led by freshman Billy Fredrick, who went four for five. Kameron Young added three doubles and four RBIs. James Bonds went three for four with two doubles to help Valencia (10-5-1, 6-0) rally for a 7-5 Foothill League victory over Newhall Hart (8-9, 2-4).

In the Mission League, West Hills Chaminade (14-3, 4-0) kept pace with Encino Crespi by knocking off St. Francis, 8-2. Brando Tessar struck out eight in six innings and Mathew Troupe hit a home run. North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake defeated Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, 9-5. Sam Horn hit a grand slam and Austin Wilson added a solo home run.

In the Sea View League, UCLA-bound Zack Weiss struck out seven and threw a complete game in Irvine Northwood’s 2-1 win over Lake Forest El Toro.
