This is supposed to be Carson’s year.

The softball world has been buzzing about the supreme talent of Carson catcher Brittany Moeai, who’s hitting .581.

With Moeai on fire, Carson could finally usurp the City Section throne from San Pedro, which has won nine of the last 10 City Section championships.

But the two teams faced off on Monday, and San Pedro did its best to dispel that rumor.

Trista Chavez hit a home run in the second inning that galvanized the Pirates’ offense, and ace pitcher Kailee Cuico did her part by tossing a five-hitter to lead San Pedro to a 4-2 win.

With that victory, San Pedro (14-5, 5-0) avenged a 2-0 loss to Carson (20-3, 4-1) on March 20.
