Mission Hills Alemany got a shutout performance from sophomore pitcher Cody Thompson to beat West Hills Chaminade, 1-0, in a Mission League regular season finale on Thursday.

Thompson struck out five, walked one and allowed three hits. Earlier this season, he threw a two-hitter to beat Encino Crespi. By sweeping Chaminade this week, Alemany claimed second place with a 19-8 record and 8-4 mark in league. Chaminade finished 23-6 and 8-4.

Thompson outdueled Oregon-bound Brando Tessar, who gave up the only run of the game on a fifth-inning home run to right field by Anthony Esparza.

Most impressive about Alemany is that it came within one game of winning the league title despite having two sophomores as its starting pitchers. The other sophomore, Ryan Paramo, was the winning pitcher on Tuesday.

‘The future looks bright,’ Alemany Coach Randy Thompson said.
