La Puente Bishop Amat, expected to be one of the favorites in the Serra League this fall, won’t have its top returning running back, Jay Anderson, who has decided to focus on baseball, according to the San Gabriel Valley Tribune.

This is the dilemma multiple-sport athletes face. Another baseball standout, sophomore Rio Ruiz, is still planning to come out and play quarterback for the Lancers.

But losing Anderson is a blow. He used his speed and toughness to provide a lift. He rushed for 1,121 yards and scored 22 touchdowns as a junior. He’s the center fielder for Bishop Amat, seeded No. 1 in the Division 4 playoffs.
