Peter Tago struck out 10, walked none and threw a six-hitter to lift Dana Point Dana Hills past Hueneme, 7-1, in a Southern Section Division 1 wild-card game Tuesday at Hueneme.

Hueneme took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI double by Jesus Valdez, but that’s also the play that cost the Vikings dearly because Valdez rolled his ankle running into second. He was unable to pitch in the second inning after putting down Dana Hills in order in the first. Brandon Hernandez came in from shortstop and did a good job until Dana Hills scored six runs in the sixth to break a 1-1 tie.

Trevor Scott had an RBI squeeze bunt, a two-run double and finished with three hits for Dana Hills, which will play No. 4-seeded Huntington Beach Edison on Thursday.

In another Division 1 game, St. John Bosco defeated Newhall Hart, 3-1, with Koby Gauna throwing the complete game. He struck out five and walked none.

In the longest game of the day, Placentia El Dorado outlasted Westlake Village Westlake, 7-6, in 11 innings.

In Division 5, Whittier Christian defeated Rim of the World, 5-0. Grant Escobar threw a two-hitter, striking out five. He also had three hits.
