Protests filed by Garden Grove and Montebello after playoff losses on Thursday were rejected by the Southern Section on Friday. Both schools alleged opposing teams engaged in illegal batting practice.

In the case with Garden Grove, which lost to Culver City, the Southern Section determined that a single player was hitting in the cage during the contest. The rule allows for batting after a game has started but not before.

In the case with Montebello, which lost to West Covina South Hills, the Southern Section determined that a type of batting practice did take place. But the type of drill and the number of players involved was determined not to be sufficient in ‘reaching a level that would warrant removing a team from the playoffs.’
