Baseball: El Camino Real beats Banning, 3-0

Jake Mills’ two-run triple in the top of the eighth inning broke up a scoreless tie and lifted Woodland Hills El Camino Real to a 3-0 victory over Wilmington Banning in an eight-inning City Section Division I semifinal game at Banning.

Junior right-hander Jose Cardona (10-1) turned in his best pitching performance of his high school career. He threw a one-hitter, struck out eight and walked two. Junior Jonathan Hernandez (8-4) took the loss, giving up seven hits.

El Camino Real advances to Saturday’s 1 p.m. championship game at Dodger Stadium against either San Pedro or Chatsworth. San Pedro led Chatsworth, 8-5, going into the seventh.

Mitch Bluman led off the eighth for El Camino Real with a single. After a fly out, Chris Nicholson singled. On a 3-and-2 count, Mills lined the pitch into center field. Francisco Chavez tried to make a diving catch but failed. Daniel Dungan then hit a sacrifice fly to drive in the third run.
