The second day of the amateur draft, with rounds 2 through 30, begins at 9 a.m. Tuesday. There will be lots of college coaches sweating today, because where high school players are taken and by what teams could determine whether they end up in college.

I’ll be watching closely to see where Santa Ana Mater Dei pitcher-outfielder Cory Hahn is taken. To me, he has done what Bret Saberhagen did 28 years ago at Reseda Cleveland _ rise up in the playoffs to make himself a legitimate pro prospect. Saberhagen was drafted before the City finals by the Kansas City Royals and threw a no-hitter at Dodger Stadium.

Hahn dominated the Southern Section playoffs with four victories and some terrific hitting, ending with being part of a perfect game in the final. But he’s only 5 feet 10, which will scare off plenty of teams. So let’s wait and see which is the smart team that drafts him.
