Yes, sophomore guard Isaac Hamilton from Los Angeles Crenshaw is going to be one of the best in the City Section. He scored 32 points Monday night in the Cougars’ 74-73 victory over Pasadena in a first-round game of the Fairfax tournament.

But the player who had the gym buzzing was 6-foot-3 senior Darnell Taylor, who scored 21 points and had a couple of ringing dunks.

Taylor has been granted a fifth-year of eligibility by the City Section, and he’s headed for All-City honors next season.

He’s got the upper-body strength of a center. At one point, he blocked a shot, pinning it against the backboard, then raced down court, took a lob pass and jammed home a dunk. What a display of athleticism.

Pasadena also showed off several top players, including sophomore Brandon Jolley and senior Todd Lewis.
