Dwayne Polee has accepted the head coach position at his alma mater, Manual Arts High, where he scored 43 points for the Toilers in the 1981 City Section championship game against Crenshaw. Polee went on to play for Pepperdine and briefly with the Clippers.

It’s a huge hire for a basketball program that has struggled in trying to regain its past success. Polee had been serving as director of basketball operations with USC. His son, Dwayne Jr., was the City Section player of the year last season at Westchester and is headed to St. John’s.

‘I feel real passionate about helping these kids,’ Polee said. ‘Timing is everything. My son is off to college, and I can help people out in the community.’
