There’s no more summer passing competitions for City Section schools that have zero week games. They start practice on Monday, which means Crenshaw and Carson will be getting ready with conditioning drills for a week before putting helmets on, then pads, because they have tough openers.

Crenshaw travels to Georgia on Sept. 3 for a nationally televised game against North Gwinnett. And the big challenge for Crenshaw is that North Gwinnett will have already played two games. That’s asking a lot from a Cougars team that was 14-1 last season but will have lots of untested sophomores and juniors on varsity.

Carson will make its debut under new coach Elijah Asante against host Santa Ana Mater Dei on Sept. 4. Asante has been working his team very hard this summer.

Another team starting practice on Monday is Los Angeles Dorsey, which plays North Hollywood in the first game of the season on a Wednesday night, Sept. 1, at North Hollywood.

Other City Section teams will begin practice next Monday.
