Notre Dame fans place hopes on Dayne Crist

Former Sherman Oaks Notre Dame quarterback Dayne Crist takes over as the starting quarterback at the University of Notre Dame on Sept. 4 against Purdue, and the stories are coming en masse about Crist, his personality, his potential.

There’s this one from an ESPN blog. ‘I just try to be myself,’ Crist said.

And how about this headline from Bleacher Report last spring: Holy Crist: Can Dayne Save Notre Dame?

The truth is Crist will be an excellent quarterback but he’s no savior. If his supporting cast is good, he’ll deliver. He’s not flashy, just competent. He’s a leader, he listens to his coaches, he can improvise and he’s tough.

Will that be enough for Notre Dame?
