Palos Verdes has a commanding lead over visiting San Pedro heading into the fourth quarter of today’s intersectional clash of South Bay schools. The host Sea Kings have used one big play after another to build a 49-9 bulge with 12 minutes to play.

Zack Fixen has played a stellar game at quarterback for Palos Verdes, hooking up with fellow junior Robby Kolanz for three scores, the last a 52-yard strike with 3:38 left in the third quarter. Fixen dropped straight back and launched a pass just beyond the reach of leaping defensive back Brent Speight and into the waiting arms of Kolanz, who caught the ball in stride at the 15 and sprinted into the end zone.

On the ensuing kickoff, Salvatore Vitale recovered a fumble at the Pirates’ 9-yard line, setting up Marc Sasso‘s four-yard touchdown run with 2:57 left in the third quarter.

Terrence Harris pulled San Pedro to within 35-9 on a 20-yard run exactly two and a half minutes after Palos Verdes’ Zach Henkhaus had returned a punt 60 yards for a touchdown.
