Venice is still waiting for its explosive running back, Teondray Caldwell, to get healthy, and when it happens in the next couple of weeks, beware.

Caldwell missed a month with a high ankle sprain. He tried to come back last week against La Puente Bishop Amat but played sparingly.

‘He’s kind of week to week,’ Coach Angelo Gasca said.

With Caldwell and receivers Gabriel Marks and Larry Clark, Venice remains the favorite to win the Western League even though the Gondoliers went 1-4 in nonleague games against such tough opponents as West Hills Chaminade, West Covina and Bishop Amat.

‘It was definitely worth while to play all these teams,’ Gasca said. ‘I’m not discouraged.’

And getting back Caldwell at full strength will help. He had seven touchdowns in the season opener against North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake.

‘Teondray will be back, and we’ll be formidable,’ Gasca said.
