I’m definitely not at a City Section game. Kenny Chesney is blaring over the public address system, there are horse trails nearby and I’ve seen some fans wearing Cowboy hats as they arrive for the Big VIII League showdown between host Norco and Corona Centennial.

Norco has college-like athletic facilities thanks to funds from a $250 million bond measure passed in 2006. Its new synthetic field, new weight room and new fieldhouse are impressive.

The big question is whether Norco can put up much of a fight. Kelsey Young, the Cougars’ outstanding running back, has rushed for 1,563 yards and 27 touchdowns. Centennial is averaging 53.2 points.
