The playoffs are still a few weeks away, but as regular season games go it doesn’t get any bigger than tonight’s Trinity League showdown between Anaheim Servite and Santa Ana Mater Dei at Angel Stadium.

Fans are filing in by the thousands and ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ is blaring over the public address system as both teams are on the field warming up for what should be an intense and physical game between two of the premiere programs in Orange County.

Servite (7-0, 2-0), ranked No. 3 in the Southland by The Times, is riding an 18-game winning streak and comes in as the favorite behind quarterback Cody Pittman, who has kept the Friars right on rolling after the graduation of his predecessor Cody Fajardo, who is now at Nevada.

Mater Dei (5-2, 2-0), ranked No. 21 by The Times, has won five straight since starting the season with back-to-back losses to Carson and No. 4 Corona Centennial. The Monarchs are led by USC-bound quarterback Max Wittek and wide receiver Victor Blackwell.
