Bill Redell, who has considered retiring as football coach at Westlake Village Oaks Christian the last two seasons, announced Friday he will return in 2011.

It is a bit of a surprise, since Redell, 69, had been telling lots of people that 2010 might be his final season. Others, however, questioned whether Redell would walk away. He started the Lions’ program when it opened in 2000 and has previously coached at Encino Crespi and La Canada St. Francis.

‘My wife and I sat down and talked about it and thought about what I’d do if I did retire and I couldn’t come up with anything,’ Redell said. ‘I need to stay a little longer.’

Oaks Christian is 6-2 this season and tied for second place in the Marmonte League.
