If Corona Roosevelt (8-1) wants to be in the spotlight, it gets the chance Thursday night when it plays host to Corona Centennial (9-0) in a Big VIII League title decider. All Centennial did last week was beat Corona, 82-21.

Roosevelt might have to try to get into a shootout with the Huskies, whose offense has been close to unstoppable. Michael Eubank has passed for 1,589 yards and 13 touchdowns with one interception. He also has rushed for 740 yards and scored 11 TDs. Barrinton Collins has rushed for 1,428 yards and scored 26 touchdowns.

But Roosevelt junior quarterback Aaron Crone keeps getting better. Last week against Riverside King, he was 13 of 16 for 291 yards and four touchdowns. He has passed for 1,675 yards with only two interceptions.

‘We just need to go out and do our thing,’ Coach Bill Stacy said. ‘We know we’re playing against a very good football team.’

Asked how you stop a team that scores lots of touchdowns, Stacy said, ‘We have to try to slow down their offense. To ask our defense to shut them out would be a little foolish. They’re going to score points.’
