It begins Thursday night, with Encino Crespi taking on Los Alamitos at Long Beach Veterans Stadium. It’s the Pac-5 Division playoffs, and this is real football, where toughness and hard hits are required to advance in the playoffs.

If Crespi intends to survive for another week, it better figure out how to contain the Los Alamitos rushing attack that features Nick Richardson, a small but elusive tailback who runs behind a powerful offensive line.

Crespi has struggled against teams that can run the ball effectively, such as Compton Dominguez and La Puente Bishop Amat.
