If you want to see an upset or two in the opening round of the football playoffs, hope for rain on Friday night. The impact will be felt most on natural grass fields that have been beat up. Muddy fields and wet balls can produce upsets.

I’ll be blogging from the Pac-5 opener between Long Beach Poly and Santa Ana Mater Dei at Veterans Stadium. We’ll also have bloggers covering Lakewood and San Clemente and Venice and Locke.
