It’s a tradition for the successful high school football programs: practice on Thanksgiving.

‘You always want to be practicing on Thanksgiving,’ Carson Coach Elijah Asante said. ‘It means you’re still playing.’

Carson, the No. 1 seed in City Section Division I, practiced Thursday morning in preparation for its Friday quarterfinal game against Garfield.

While some are predicting Carson and Crenshaw are on a collision course to meet in the championship game at the Coliseum on Dec. 11, Asante said he’s taking it one game at a time.

‘Garfield has won seven straight,’ he said.
