The Southern Section has denied varsity eligibility to Danilo Dragovic, a 6-foot-5 senior who transferred to North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake after playing junior varsity last season at San Marcos. He came here from Serbia and is the younger brother of former UCLA player Nikola Dragovic.

Dragovic had a hearing on Monday with a CIF appeal panel, and if he doesn’t win his appeal, Coach Greg Hilliard said the next step would be going to court.

Dragovic was ineligible to play varsity last season and apparently didn’t know that by playing JVs, it would affect his varsity eligibility this season.

It means he could be sidelined for two years from playing varsity basketball, and Hilliard doesn’t think that’s appropriate.

‘The kid sits for two years in this country and they won’t let him play,’ Hilliard said.
